INTRODUCTION Music Alarm is designed for the people like you who work on the computer all the time, and need something to remind you to give your eyes a break. It also can be used as a multi- setting alarm clock to remind you some routine events at work or at home, such as coffee break, special phone calls, doctor appointments, lunch time, and so on. You can set it as a music instrument which plays your favorite music regularly to make your work on the computer enjoyable. This is especially true during the Christmas time. I am sure that the attached Christmas music will give you more joyful spirit in the holiday season. Music Alarm is an MS Windows application program. It works under MS Windows 3.0 or higher, and runs in the background while you are working on some other programs. When a predefined event occurs, it will play the selected music and/or display a message box. With this program you could set the following events: - A specific time with the specified year, month, date, hour, minute, and second. - An event of very minute with the specified second. - An event of every hour with the specified minute and second. - An event of every day with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Monday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Tuesday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Wednesday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Thursday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Friday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Saturday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every Sunday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every weekday with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every weekend day with the specified hour, minute and second. - An event of every month with the specified date, hour, minute and second. - An event of every year with the specified month, date, hour, minute and second. For each event you could select a music file to play. If playing music is not appropriate in some situation, a message box can be used instead. The remarks that you entered will be displayed in the message box. Playing music and displaying a message box are all optional. You could set them any way you want. An event can be armed or disarmed. This gives you an option to disable the event without deleting it. Music Alarm lets the user make changes to the existing events. The events can be saved into a file, and read back later. The automatically-run feature lets MS Windows run Music Alarm whenever Windows starts. COPYRIGHT NOTICE Music Alarm is a shareware program. Upon receipt of your registration fee, you will receive more music files plus an updated Music Alarm, and a copy of Music Editor which lets you write your own music and various sounds. ADD A NEW EVENT Select NEW EVENT from the EVENT menu to open a dialog box which contains date settings, music file list, and some options. After selecting the proper values for the following settings, click the Add button to add the event, or click the Add and Close button to add the event and close the dialog box. Click the Close button to cancel the settings. The following lists show the choices for each setting: Hour: 0 - 23 Every hour Minute: 0 - 59 Every minute Second: 0 -59 Month: Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Every month Date: 0 - ? depends on month Year: 10 years from the current year Every year Day: Every Sunday Every Monday Every Tuesday Every Wednesday Every Thursday Every Friday Every Saturday Every Day Every Week days Every Weekend Use Date The following steps describe how to set up events: Music file To select a music file, click the file name from the Files list box. The name will appear in the Music edit box. Once the file is select, you can test by clicking the Test button. If there is no music files in the Files list box, they may be in the different directory. To change a directory, double-click the directory in the Directories list. Options (An X in the box means that the item is checked) Arm - Defines the event is armed. Display Message - A message box will appear when the event occurs. No Sound - Specifies not to play music. Remarks Remarks will be displayed in the message box when the event occurs. Click the edit box next to Remarks, and type in the message. Set an event with a specific time 1. Select Every Hour from the Hour list 2. Set minute 3. Set second Set a minutely event 1. Select Every Minute from the Minute list 2. Set second ARM AN EVENT Find the event that you want to arm by using the scroll bar in the main window, and click it. It should be highlighted. If the event is not armed the Arm button below the menu bar would be enabled. Click the Arm button to arm the event. An alternative way to arm the highlighted event is to select Arm from the Event menu. DISARM AN EVENT Use the scroll bar in the main window to find the event that you want to disarm, and then click it. The event should be highlighted. If the event is armed the Disarm button below the menu bar would be enabled. Click the Disarm button to disarm the event. An alternative way to disarm the highlighted event is to select Disarm from the Event menu. DELETE AN EVENT Use the scroll bar in the main window to bring the event that you want to delete to the view, and then click it. The event should be highlighted. Click the Delete button to delete the event. Another way to delete the highlighted event is to select Delete from the Event menu. EDIT AN EVENT Use the scroll bar in the main window to bring the event that you want to edit to the view, and then click it. The event should be highlighted. Click the Edit button to open a dialog box with the current settings of the event. Follow the steps in the section ADD A NEW EVENT to set the new settings. Another way to edit the highlighted event is to select Edit from the Event menu. Double-clicking the event will open the dialog box, too. STOP PLAYING MUSIC Click the Stop button any time to stop playing music. HANDLING A MESSAGE BOX Music Alarm generates two kinds of message boxes. One contains two buttons, Close and Close All, and the other one contains one more button called Yes when "No Sound" option is not checked. Close button - Close the current message box. Close All button - Close all the message boxes on the screen. Yes button - Close the current message box, and stop playing music. AUTO RUN WHEN WINDOWS STARTS If you use Music Alarm every day, you could let it run automatically when Windows starts. To do this, select "Auto Run when Windows Starts" from the Options menu. A check sign in front of "Auto Run when Windows Starts" means that the auto run feature is enabled. To disable the auto run feature, select it again. SAVE EVENTS TO A FILE Select Save from the File menu to save all the events into the file whose name is defined on the title bar. If there is no name on the title bar, it will open a dialog box to let you enter the file name. SAVE EVENTS UNDER A DIFFERENT FILE To save events under a different file, select Save As from the File menu. A dialog box appears to let you enter a file name. The edit box which is next to Directory shows which directory that the file is going to be saved. You can change the directory by double-clicking one of the entries in the Directories list box. PRINT EVENT LIST Select Print Event List from the File menu to let you print all the events in the main window of the Music Alarm. It would use the default printer driver. To change the printer driver, please use Print Manager in the Main program group. PRINT ORDER FORM You can print out an invoice and an order form by selecting the Print Order Form option from the FILE menu.
